On Friday, March 4th at 12.00 residents and visitors of Altea witnessed a spectacular show inaugurating 30th edition of the 200 millas a2 race between Altea-Ibiza-Altea.

This year’s race organized by the Yacht Club of Altea, the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation with the collaboration of the Sailing Federation of Valencia and Altea Town Hall takes places between March 4th and 6th.

These competitions can be very challenging as the weather at this time of year is capricious. It can change rapidly from calm breeze to the very strong northern winds closer to Ibiza. Over the years there have been easy races as well as very difficult ones. During a race in 1989, only one boat returned with the rest being rescued by the military patrol boats and National Sea Rescue.

This year’s journey started with blue skies in Altea. The competitors need to pass three control points during the trial: in San Antonio, Tagonago and Paso de Freus.

On March 6th, the official inauguration will take place with all the participants receiving bronze trophy, 1st place: 1 Kg. silver ingot, 2nd place: ½ Kg. silver ingot, 3rd place: ¼ Kg. silver ingot.

We wish all the participants smooth sailing!
